Greening California, Community by Community

Posted March 29, 2018

You helped us take big steps forward in 2017. As we look ahead, 2018 is shaping up to be even better! Our ability to grow energy independence in communities throughout California depends upon supporters like you. Thank you from all of us at Greenpower for your activism and care!

In Fall 2017, we joined the San Diego Community Choice Alliance, a coalition of nonprofits, businesses, activists and community organizations working to bring cleaner energy and lower electricity costs to San Diego. In February, the city’s largest newspaper, the Union Tribune, featured Greenpower’s San Diego Clean Energy Organizer, Sonja Robinson, as an unsung hero doing amazing work in her community.

This year we’re partnering with the community of Aromas to help them achieve their goal of becoming a 100 percent renewable community. In April, the Aromas Progressive Action League, with support from Greenpower organizer Leslie Austin, hosted the Aromas Home Energy Expo, where town residents learned how to make their homes and lives more efficient.

Since 2016 we’ve been partnering with the Catholic Diocese of Monterey to transform their parishes and schools into beacons of sustainable energy production.  St. Michael's church in Boulder Creek, CA was the first parish to install solar as part of this campaign. Watch the video below to learn more about the St. Michael’s project and this exciting work.
