Our Lady Star of the Sea Church
About the Green Churches InitiativeInspired by Pope Francis’ message of environmental stewardship in his encyclical Laudato Si, Greenpower began our Green Churches Initiative in 2016 in collaboration with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Monterey of California and Santa Cruz-based energy efficiency and solar experts Mynt Systems. Our goal is to transform Diocese churches and schools into beacons of sustainable energy production by installing renewable energy systems like solar as well as energy efficiency measures like LED lighting retrofits. Not only will this help protect the environment, it will help save the Diocese millions of dollars that can be used for education and charitable ministries.
First StepsOur Lady Star of the Sea Church sent representatives to a Greenpower presentation on November 2, 2016 at Resurrection Church about the Green Churches Initiative from the Catholic Diocese of Monterey, Mynt Systems, and the Romero Institute, where they learned how they could drastically reduce their electricity bills while answering Pope Francis’ call for environmental stewardship.
