Resurrection Catholic Community

Resurrection Catholic Community was founded in Aptos in 1875 by a group of pioneers. Today, under the direction of Father Romeo Evangelista and Deacon Patrick Conway, it serves over 1,000 families throughout Santa Cruz County and offers a number of ministries and programs including youth and young adult education, counseling and faith development, housing and medical assistance for the homeless, a food pantry, an annual holiday gift drive for disadvantaged children and adults, and much more.

About the Green Churches Initiative

Inspired by Pope Francis’ message of environmental stewardship in his encyclical Laudato Si, Greenpower began our Green Churches Initiative in 2016 in collaboration with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Monterey of California and Santa Cruz-based energy efficiency and solar experts Mynt Systems. Our goal is to transform Diocese churches and schools into beacons of sustainable energy production by installing renewable energy systems like solar as well as energy efficiency measures like LED lighting retrofits. Not only will this help protect the environment, it will help save the Diocese millions of dollars that can be used for education and charitable ministries.

Energy Assessment Completed

On July 11, 2016, Mynt Systems visited Holy Cross and assessed their appliances, light fixtures, heating and ventilation, and roof space to begin analyzing their energy use patterns and put together an effective and personalized energy efficiency and solar system project proposal.

Energy Assessment Scheduled

Resurrection has taken the next in moving forward with implementing solar and energy efficiency at their properties by scheduling Mynt Systems to perform a full audit of their appliances, light fixtures, heating and ventilation, and roof space for energy efficiency retrofits and solar on July 11, 2016.

First Steps

Representatives from Greenpower, the Catholic Diocese of Monterey, and Mynt Systems presented the Green Churches Initiative to Resurrection Catholic Community on June 28, 2016, showing how they could drastically reduce their electricity bills while answering Pope Francis’ call for environmental stewardship.
