St. Francis High School

St. Francis High School was formed in Watsonville in April, 2000 as a cooperation between Bishop of the Diocese of Monterey and the Provincial of the Salesians of Saint John Bosco. Pat Lee is the current principal. St. Francis High is a college preparatory school, offering a number of Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, extracurricular activities, and college counseling services to its 250 students. They are fully accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA).

About the Green Churches Initiative

Inspired by Pope Francis’ message of environmental stewardship in his encyclical Laudato Si, Greenpower began our Green Churches Initiative in 2016 in collaboration with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Monterey of California and Santa Cruz-based energy efficiency and solar experts Mynt Systems. Our goal is to transform Diocese churches and schools into beacons of sustainable energy production by installing renewable energy systems like solar as well as energy efficiency measures like LED lighting retrofits. Not only will this help protect the environment, it will help save the Diocese millions of dollars that can be used for education and charitable ministries.

Energy Assessment Completed

On December 6, 2016, Mynt Systems visited St. Francis High School and assessed their appliances, light fixtures, heating and ventilation, and roof space to begin analyzing their energy use patterns and put together an effective and personalized energy efficiency and solar system project proposal.

Energy Assessment Scheduled

St. Francis High School has taken the next step in embracing energy efficiency and solar by scheduling Mynt Systems to perform a full audit of their appliances, light fixtures, heating and ventilation, and roof space for energy efficiency retrofits and solar on December 6, 2016.

First Steps

St. Francis High School sent representatives to a Greenpower presentation on November 10, 2016 at the Diocese of Monterey Headquarters about the Green Churches Initiative from the Catholic Diocese of Monterey, Mynt Systems, and the Romero Institute, where they learned how they could drastically reduce their electricity bills while answering Pope Francis’ call for environmental stewardship.
